Ever see a movie that's so bad that it's good? Well neither have I - sort of.
In this case, I've only seen part of the movie so it's a partial review. Ah, but before I reveal the good, the bad, and the ugly in regards to what I have seen and read about the movie title, I need to reiterate a point we all know - “so bad that it's good” is entirely subjective.
With that said, when it comes to bad movies, the Sci-Fi genre comes to mind immediately. And in this case, the seemingly campy style of “Mutant Chronicles” tries hard as it oozes with not only over-the-top violence, but with dialog one wouldn't go home and repeat to momma. But it's the dialog that makes it so good. The violence, yeah, I could care less about. Plot means more to me. But where else could one encounter the ironic lines between two characters such as the following?
Steiner: “Any last words?”
Hunter: “Yeah, shut the [bleep] up!”
Yeah yeah, just about anyone who knows me realizes I have a sense of humor that sometimes finds humor in the most unusual places. And without fail, I find the lines truly funny in an ironic way. Oh, but there's better. Then there's Devon Aoki's line I won't repeat, but it's one of those lines that make a guy wonder if he's going to start hearing that cheesy yet easily recognizable music nearly every red-blooded, healthy, single guys know all to well - “Bom-chick-a-bow-bow!”
Ah, dialog, it makes or breaks a movie and in this case, it makes the grade. So if you want some B-grade fun, lots of over the top violence, and a bit of dialog that occasionally rises up like a Phoenix Bird from the ashes to add to the movies camp factor, give it a try. But you've been warned. :D
